FAQs
Preference of enrolment will be given to those students with parents who have established a particular or general connection with the special character of the school in accordance with our Enrolment Policy.
Parents will be asked to complete an enrolment application which will include signing a Statement of Belief and demonstrating their committing to supporting the Christian character. A pastoral reference will also be sought. The final step will be an interview with the principal.
The government has clear rules around how preference of enrolment is to be determined. The Proprietor of the school makes that determination.
Enrolments are open for Years 1 to 10 in 2026, Year 1-11 in 2027, Year 1-12 in 2028 and Year 1-13 in 2029.
These are the steps:
- Application forms are received and processed by the office.
- If there are no places in a particular year level, parents will be places on a wait list.
- If there are places available an interview is arranged.
- Following the interview, decisions are made on whether we can offer a place at WHCC.
We will process applications each year for the following year. We will not receive applications for subsequent year.
The regular pathway for students living in the Hutt Valley is to attend Maranatha Christian School for Year 1-8 and then come to WHCC for their Year 9-13. There is increased provision at the year 9 level to allow this to happen. There are some circumstances in which a Year 1-8 Maranatha student may join WHCC, such as moving house. In such instances, please contact the office to discuss eligibility.
The parents have formed a group that carpools using the schools 13 seater van.
The Ministry of Education have not confirmed a bus yet (as of August 2026) and will review the situation next year.
They will, however, provide conveyancing allowance for families in Lower Hutt and Wainuiomata. Parents need to apply for the financial assistance individually. Car-pooling is being arranged by one of the Lower Hutt parents. Contact the school office to be a part of this group.
- Conveyancing allowance rates are outlined on the Conveyancing Allowance Table.

Each family has to apply separately. When applying, parents have two options:
- receive the money personally and arrange their own transport, or
- have the money directed to the school and a group arranges the transport.
At this stage there is not sufficient demand. We have looked to operate with other schools in the area but this has not yet been possible.
Yes, Wellington Hills Christian College is state-integrated and delivers the New Zealand Curriculum. This includes all core curriculum subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Technology, Health and Physical Education and the Arts. In Year 7-8 a language is also taught.
We will have well-structured sequential, research-based programmes in Literacy and Mathematics. All classes will have lessons in The four Arts subjects and physical education, health and technology. Years 1-2 will have development time each afternoon to develop their core competencies. Topical studies begin in Year 3. These include history, geography, technology and science. The history and geography includes both local and overseas contexts.
Students in Year 9+ will have a full programme with specialist teachers being employed. In Years 9-11 the programme will focus on rich content in English, Maths, Science and the Social Sciences as well as cover a wide range of other subjects under The Arts, Physical Education, Health and Languages. This focus will ensure all options remain open for the Year 12-13 years, when students may specialise with in preparation for tertiary studies or working. WHCC intend to have specialists in all core subjects, and make use of online options in niche subjects with only a few enrolments.
All year 1-10 students will have PE classes. We will make use of Alex Moore Park, which is within easy walking distance of the school, the swimming pool and a local gymnasium. We currently have a relationship with the Heart Foundation and Nuku Ora (Sport Wellington) which will continue in Johnsonville. These groups support our sports programmes.
Primary: As we are a State-Integrated school our primary students will also have the opportunity to participate in the Northern Zone Sport. School sports teams that play outside school times will be dependent numbers, and grow as we grow. For now, we encourage families to make use of the well-established sports clubs.
Secondary: 2025 will be a year in which we establish connections in secondary Sport Wellington, which may create opportunities with other Colleges in the proximity of the Johnsonville area.
Selected students in College will have the potential to attend individual sports competitions such as athletic and cross-country. Again, we will only offer team sports when we have sufficient interest and so we encourage involvement in the well-established sports clubs.
(Please note even large Colleges may not offer every sport and often combine with other colleges to create teams.)
It is the view of the school that engaging in Māori culture will be beneficial for all and consistent with our nation’s heritage. The way in which this will be done is guided by Scripture. As with all cultures (European, Asian and Polynesian and others), there are aspects true to Scripture which may be adopted. Those close to Scripture may be adapted. Those contrary to Scripture will not be adopted but may still be taught by way of contrast and for critical thinking.
There are two areas to consider, pastoral and curriculum. Pastorally, the school is committed to creating a place of care and safety for all students in all cases. Curriculum-wise, we will be guided by Scriptures. We plan to teach the varying views, how people come to them, and what the Scriptures teach. The introduction of concepts will be age-appropriate. It will also include how to manage positive relationships with people of all beliefs. Parents will be consulted before any such teaching.
